Old Testament: Pentateuch

This course will introduce the first five books of the Old Testament, known as the Pentateuch. The emphasis will be on understanding each book's purpose and content, as well as how they relate to the larger concept of Abraham's and Moses' Covenants. The crucial biblical and theological questions raised in each book will also be discussed.
Instructor: Dr. Martus Maleachi joined DTC as a full-time lecturer in July 2025. He previously served as an associate pastor at Grace Indonesian Christian Church, Bandung (1992–1995), a faculty member at Southeast Asia Bible Seminary (Malang, 1995–2020), and president of the seminary from 2015 to 2020. He then worked in the marketplace while preparing to become a missionary with SIM. Martus and his wife Suriati served as missionaries in Kenya from 2022 to 2025, where they taught at the International Leadership University in Nairobi and Moffat Bible College in Kijabe.



The Gospel of John

This course introduces the Gospel of John and issues surrounding its interpretation. These will include the Gospel’s authorship, date, social context, literary character and its theological themes. The focus will be on the character of Jesus and the discourses. “Who is Jesus for John?” will be the guiding question for the class.
At the end of the course, students should have captured the distinctive witness of John’s Gospel to the identity of Jesus, discussed the Gospel from different perspectives and methodologies, and examined the question of contemporary appropriations of the Gospel.
Instructor: Rev Dr Tan Yak-hwee, is an ordained minister with the Presbyterian Church in Singapore. She was an Associate Professor at Tainan Theological College teaching New Testament Studies and a partner-in-mission with the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. Yak-hwee received her PhD in Religion (New Testament) from Vanderbilt University, USA. Her research interests are in the Gospels, especially the Johannine Literature, biblical theology, missions and the intersectional approaches in the Bible and theology. As an adjunct lecturer at DTC, Yak-hwee also teaches the Letter to the Romans.

New Testament Epistles II

The focus of this survey course of New Testament epistles will be on unpacking the letters of Paul, the 2nd letter of Peter and the letters of John, with the aim of appreciating each letter’s significance and applications.
Instructor: Ms Seah Jiak Choo retired from the Ministry of Education, Singapore, as Director-General of Education in Mar 2009. She began her career in the education service in 1977 teaching mathematics, and held various appointments, including Principal of a secondary school, Senior Inspector of Schools, Director of Research and Testing, and Director of Schools.
She has a vibrant teaching ministry at various churches and is a Principal Instructor at Eagles Communications' Rendezvous Ministry. As an adjunct lecturer at DTC, Jiak Choo also teaches Synoptic Gospels and NT Epistles I.



Serving Cross-Culturally

This is a self-discovery course. The focus is to understand the tensions and conflicts that Christian ministry workers experience when they serve or work with people who come from a different culture, social and language background.
Our approach to exploring cross-cultural ministry relationships is to discover how our personal, social, cultural and language have influenced our preferences which could be points of tension in interpersonal and cross-cultural relationships. We will discuss how we can identify and understand these differences and but allow our Christian discipleship and Biblical values to develop us to be Christ-like over our personal, social, cultural norms.
Instructor: Ps Alvin Tan, Dean of DTC, went for theological training at DTC and served in Cambodia, initially direct-sent by his home church and then with OMF, reaching out to university students and helping in church planting and discipleship. He also taught at Phnom Penh Bible School to train and raise up local pastors and ministry leaders. He continues as a visiting lecturer there. Alvin was Senior Pastor of Bartley Christian Church before joining DTC as the Dean on July 2023. At DTC, Alvin also teaches The Mission of God, Christian Ethics, and Church & Mission.

Christian Education I

This course aims to provide the biblical foundations and principles of Christian Education and equip students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills to disciple the various age-groups through various structures or avenues such as the home, church and Christian community for life transformation.
Christian Education II will cover the various techniques to engage and teach God's truths to the various age-groups especially the Gen Alpha using creative lesson planning, transformational teaching-learning process, camps and games, etc.
Christian Education I will run for eight weeks (Term 1), followed by a two-week break, and Christian Education II continues for another eight weeks (Term 2). Audit students are highly encouraged to attend all 16 weeks to benefit from the course. They may pay the audit fee of S$100 at the start of Term 1 for Christian Education I, and S$100 at the start of Term 2 for Christian Education II.
Instructor: Mr. David Leong is a veteran trainer in Christian Education and Children’s Ministry for nearly 40 years. He is a local preacher and an itinerant Children & Families Educator of Grace Methodist Church Singapore and was the Executive Director of Scripture Union Singapore from 1998 until June 2013. He is also an adjunct faculty member for Children's Ministry of International Christian Mission (ICM) Inc. Plus.


All classes are held in person at DTC.

Expectations: Audit students are not required to do assignments but are expected to attend all lessons and complete the course. They are also expected to appreciate DTC’s ethos of training in a small, cross-cultural community of students and teachers living together and sharing in study, worship and recreation.
